Capital Area Federal Credit Union serves consumers living, working, worshipping, and attending school in Kennebec, Waldo, and Lincoln Counties. Established as a member-owned financial institution with charter number 9919 in 1987 from a merger between East Augusta Pulp & Sulphite Credit Unions (a charter number) and Augusta Pulp & Sulphite Credit Unions (also charter number 9919), it became Capital Area Federal Credit Union.

Membership

At La Cap, we partner with schools, districts, businesses, and community organizations to offer students, staff, and employees membership. Anyone interested can join by opening either a La Cap checking or savings account and fulfilling all program requirements during their reward period – in addition to having at least one auto loan or credit card in good standing.

Credit unions also provide other products and services, such as checking and savings accounts, mortgages, auto loans, and ATMs that are accessible 24/7 for depositing or withdrawing funds, making transfers between accounts, downloading account data into financial management software programs, or starting cash deposits for deposits made at branch ATMs.

Joining a credit union is straightforward and cost-effective, accepting various forms of ID, such as valid driver’s licenses or state ID cards as membership documentation. Membership is completely free for life!

Credit unions are non-profit institutions that offer financial services to their members at competitive interest rates and low fees, with personalized service. Credit unions also offer online and mobile banking options that make managing finances convenient on the go, are regulated by both federal and state agencies, provide educational resources for members, as well as the opportunity for members to earn additional income by selling off mortgages and car loans they own through them.

Deposit Accounts

At United Bank & Trust, we have an array of deposit accounts tailored to fit your needs, including checking, savings, and certificates. Plus, we offer free online and mobile banking, automated phone banking, and an expansive ATM network throughout Virginia – not to mention much more!

Members seeking higher-yield investments can open a Certificate of Deposit (CD). This account operates similarly to regular savings accounts but provides an interest rate that remains unchanged throughout its term. To learn more about our CD rates and terms, click here.

Federal regulations restrict the number of preauthorized electronic funds transfers or bill payments you can make from a savings or money market account to no more than six per month, including online bill pay services such as Capital Connection.

Add your CAFCU debit or credit card to your smartphone for secure and hassle-free transactions with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or Android Pay at participating retailers. Please remember that all the terms and conditions outlined in your deposit account agreements and disclosures still apply; thus, your CAFCU debit or credit card can only be used following them.

Loans

At Loan Company of New Hampshire, we offer an assortment of loan products, such as personal loans and mortgages, to give our customers access to funds needed for home improvement projects, vacation expenses, or vehicle purchases. Prepaid Visa cards and checking and savings account services are also offered, giving you convenient access to account information and transfers, loan payments, or bill payments from your home through our online banking service. To use this service, a home computer and internet access software that supports 128 bit encryption must be in place. Installation, maintenance, and operation are your responsibilities as the owner/operator of both equipment. Alternatively, account information can also be downloaded into your financial management software programs.

Financial Education

Members can gain the skills needed to become financially savvy through the Credit Union’s Financial Education program. Seminars, workshops, and one-on-one sessions cover setting financial goals, budgeting spending plans, selecting financial products, understanding credit, and much more.

Capital Area FCU supports its young members and helps them realize their dreams by encouraging good financial habits during National Credit Union Youth Month in April. Members are encouraged to save small amounts regularly and watch it “grow like magic.” It’s just another way they support Capital Area FCU!

Capital Area Federal Credit Union can trace its roots back to 1935 through a series of mergers and acquisitions. Augusta Pulp and Sulphite Federal Credit Union officially created the credit union charter in 1954.
