You took up a mock test for NEET and were not able to get good scores as you hoped. Studied from the study materials, still did not manage to get desired results? It is a persistent issue with several students. For most of them, the problem boils down to ineffective study habits.

How To Deal With Ineffective Study Habits?

To achieve great scores at NEET, one has to look at the current study skills which are deployed. Recognizing the areas of improvement and targets can help you start addressing any issue.

It is an ongoing process to find the best way to study, and most often there is no one correct answer. However, there are certain bad habits that every successful student possesses, which must be used to reach one’s utmost potential.

Let us understand how one can exit the loop of practising ineffective study habits and start building effective ones to become successful. Listed below are some inefficient habits practised and steps you can take to overcome them.

Ineffective Practise #1 Starting without a plan

Approach to Overcome:

Before you start to study, create a NEET study plan that exactly outlines what you want to accomplish in a particular study session. This will help you to set a goal for each of the study sessions such as concepts to cover, revisions to be done etc.

Ineffective Practise #2 Studying Aimlessly

Approach to Overcome:

One tends to simply spend time pretending to study while nothing really gets into their understanding. Avoid doing so. Figure out which time of the day you are most productive and cover most of the studying at that time. For most of them, morning hours work best as one tends to be the sharpest and ready to learn while for some others, studying at night works best.

Ineffective Practise #3 Studying to remember not to understand

Approach to Overcome:

Rather than memorizing the syllabus for NEET, start interlinking concepts, analyze and understand things. Use different resources (example – mind maps) to relate to information for in-depth understanding, make learning interesting.

Ineffective Practise #4 Maintaining Disorganized Notes

Approach to Overcome:

Organize notes from each of the subjects into a folder. Start practising effective note-making strategies. Try different methods, experiment to see which works best for you.

Ineffective Practise #5 Not on any agenda

Approach to Overcome:

Set goals, jot down dates of mock tests, solving papers etc. Once you are habituated to listing everything down, it would become much easier to plan and remember things to be done.

Ineffective Practise #6 Not Seeking Help

Approach to Overcome:

When you seem to be doubtful of any concept, do not hesitate to ask for help. So, do not shy away from learning and seeking help from peers/teachers/seniors/mentors.

Ineffective Practise #7 Not learning from previous mistakes

Approach to Overcome:

Successful people learn from their mistakes. If you have had a bad score on a test, sit down and analyze what mistakes you committed, learn how best you could avert it and do not commit the same mistake again. Analyze and improve.
