To make progress in your field you need to be able to delegate and assign tasks to your team effectively.  It is not easy as it looks, for effective delegation the leader must establish trust, and proper communication and coordination with subordinates.

Why is delegation important in management?

The manager cannot complete the whole work just by himself, he needs to share a part of it with his subordinates. By delegating he can focus on more critical issues and work on business analysis, planning, and developing strategies. Business leaders like Kelly Sills understand that  effective delegation is one of the keys for business to get successful. Delegation is helpful for both managers and subordinates, they can focus on their core issues and flourish in their respective departments. Overall, it helps the manager shift his workload to his juniors and bring stability, transparency and efficiency to the system.

Steps for Effective Delegation

Many business leaders like Andy Dupuy  increased the sales of his firm by doing effective delegation. Here are the steps you need to follow;

1.Who is the right one –  Before you delegate, identify what work they need to be completed and then shortlist people based on their skills and schedule. For example, if you urgently want creative preparation, it would make sense if you delegate your work to someone on the graphics team. Successful leaders like Kelly Sills delegate tasks to the right people and ensure that the teammates understands the tasks and what is expected from them.

2. Explain to them why you are delegating the tasks – For effective communication between you and your team, explain to them everything about the tasks. Provide clear instructions, resources (if required) and give those tasks with trust and authority. Answer their questions, assign them a deadline and also inform them about the result the client expects. Confirm if they have completely understood the tasks and get a commitment from them.

3. Responsibility and Authority – You shall divide tasks and the authority to them because you don’t want them to get stuck in case of an issue. You will receive the highest quality of work when they have the freedom to ask questions, make decisions and take necessary steps to work.

4. Feedback and Revisions –  You probably are more experienced, so when the subordinate submits his work, properly review it, ask questions if you have a doubt somewhere and request them to make necessary changes. If you tell them the specific reasons for revisions, they will happily complete them and also avoid similar mistakes in future.

5. Appreciate them –  When he/she has completed the tasks, show that you are grateful to them, give her/him honest remarks and appreciate them for their work. Such behaviour will boost the confidence, loyalty and job satisfaction of the employee.

Conclusion

 Delegating effectively is one of the secrets in the success of the business. It is not just about telling people to perform tasks, with the help of effective communication, trust, respect and a growth mindset is being developed.
