The 2012 St. Kitts Open will provide all the excitement of a typical golf tournament in half the time.

On May 26-27, the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club will host the 31st edition of the event in Basseterre, the nation's capital. The golf club offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and is the perfect setting for a splendid weekend of golf.

The festivities officially kick off May 25 with a 6 p.m. opening ceremony. The following two days will bring the tournament, with golfers competing in five divisions: Championship, Men's, Women's, Senior and Super Senior. Most golf tournaments, particularly professional events, take place over a four-day period.

Last year's overall champion was James Johnson of Barbados, who shot an even par 142 during the 36-hole tournament at the par 71 course. Who is destined to earn bragging rights
— and a sizable cash prize — this year? Time will tell.

What we do know is that all the participants will get to stride through magnificent fairways and putt from lush greens at one of the world's most beautiful golf courses.
