REELING THEM IN THIS WEEKEND

As more and more anglers and spectators gather for a picture-perfect weekend, the Antigua Barbuda Fishing Tournament gets bigger and better every year.

Presented by the Antigua Barbuda Sport Fishing Club, the 46th edition of the tournament will take place May 25-27 at Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua.

The Antigua Barbuda Sport Fishing Club has been in operation for more than 20 years. The tournament is one of three events hosted by the club each year: the others are the Antigua Barbuda Marlin Classic taking place the day after the sport fishing tournament ends and the Francis Nunes Jr. Fishing Tournament and Seafood Festival.

After a May 25 captain's briefing, the fishing starts the following day at 6 a.m. More than 40 boats will power off from Fort Berkley, making their way to their preferred fishing grounds. The weigh-in will begin at 4:30 p.m. on May 26 and at 4 p.m. on May 27. All the fish caught will go on sale.

The on-the-water action will be accompanied by plenty of shore-side entertainment, including live music and kids games. New this year is the Grab n’ Go stall, which will be helmed by some of Antigua & Barbuda’s most popular culinary personalities, including Collen Simpson, Olvanah Richardson-Burnette, Christopher Terry and more.

The awards ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. on May 27 and will be followed by an exciting party.

The Antigua Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament welcomes anglers of all experience levels. The event is ideal for hanging out as a family and offers something for everyone.
