Blue marlin will be the ultimate catch during a prestigious tournament in Curacao this weekend.
The 46th annual Blue Marlin Release Tournament will take place from March 30 to April 1. The event is presented by the Curacao Yacht Club, with Orco Bank serving as the main sponsor.
The team that wins the three-day tournament will receive a prize of $10,000, with the runner up and third-place teams receiving $5,000 and $3,000, respectively. The conservation of the blue marlin is important to the event's organizers, so all marlins weighing less than 300 pounds must be released. The $250 registration fee includes a welcome reception, breakfast, lunch, drinks, a wine and cheese party, activities, bait, and tournament souvenirs and trophies.
Among the oldest competitions of its type in the Caribbean, the tournamnet attracts more than 40 yachts and 150 fishermen each year coming from the region, as well as North and South America.
The Curacao Yacht Club was established more than 43 years ago and has grown significantly over that time. The club now has over 500 members and accommodates more than 50 yachts and over 50 smaller boats. Visiting yachts are also welcome.
The tournament will be packed with exciting shore-side entertainment and activities for both children and adults. There will be plenty of musical entertainment with DJ's present, as well as an outside bar, buffet nights and more. For children, there will be fishing on the pier, face painting, crafts, games, pony rides and Easter activities.
