It’s the third Friday of the month. Patrons breeze through the street, pausing to examine local artists’ artwork in historical Safety Harbor, enjoying the festival going on around them. The Third Friday Music Series, hosted by the city of Safety Harbor, is a free street festival put on once a month. The proceeds from the festival are donated to a different charity each month; Magic Beans Village will benefit from the upcoming Victorian-themed third Friday December 17. The family-friendly festival takes place between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and is located on Main Street Safety Harbor, between Philippe Parkway/Bayshore Boulevard and 9th Street, adjacent to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.
Local businesses open their doors for longer hours, hand out brochures and free food, and entice potential customers to browse their wares. Creative artists get to showcase their talent in an Etsy-like presentation, selling paintings, handmade crafts, jewelry and other eclectic oddities. With the holidays around the corner, it’s the perfect opportunity to do some gift shopping. Many booths cater to pets, so it’s common to see pets trotting down the two-lane road, their owners in tow. There are numerous food carts lining the street with beer, wine, backyard BBQ, fried carnival-styled foods, hot dogs, hamburgers, cake pops and other decadent desserts. Live music can be enjoyed at John Wilson Park, easily spotted by the large gazebo in its center. All in all, Safety Harbor Third Friday is a lovely way to pass the evening, either on a charming dinner date or family outing, including old dog Fido.
